All PISD volunteers are required to submit a volunteer/criminal background application only available on-line by clicking here. If you do not have a Texas driver's license, see the Brinker school secretary.

Checking items below does not commit you to that volunteer job but adds your name to a list of potential volunteers. Each chairperson receives a list of interested people and will contact volunteers as the need arises.

Volunteer Interests

 

BOOK FAIR
Help at book fair with checkout, helping students and parents find books and filling wish list orders. Time commitment: 1-2 days of 2-3 hour shifts, once per year in the spring.
BUILDING & LANDSCAPE
Assist in planting bedding plants in front of school. Help with seasonal decorations in the school office and foyer. Time commitment will vary.
CLASSROOM READING BUDDY
Work closely with individual students in Kindergarten to improve their reading. Teachers identify students and prepare lessons. More information to follow from teachers. Time commitment will vary: usually 1 hour per week.
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS
Assist with the implementation of the PTA voted projects for this school year. Time commitment will vary.
 
CULTURAL DIVERSITY
Assist with Cultural Diversity Night and other planned activities to increase knowledge of Brinker's diverse culture.
FAMILY PICNIC
Assist with the planning and set up of the family picnic held in September.
FIELD DAY
Assist for 3-4 hours with games, beverages, etc. during Field Day, which is held in May.
GIFT WRAP SALES
Assist in the organization and distribution of the gift-wrap fundraiser materials.
GRADE LEVEL VOLUNTEER
Assist in the workroom with classroom material preparation or assist with special grade level activities as directed by the lead teacher. Time commitment: 1-4 times per month.
GRADE LEVEL VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Meet with grade level Team Leader and schedule grade level volunteers according to the teachers’ needs. May be done at home.
GREETER DESK
Greet parents and volunteers entering the school and assist with sign-ins. Time commitment: 1-4 times per month, 2 hr. shifts.
HOMEROOM REPRESENTATIVE
Assist with planning Back-to-School Parent Coffee; three classroom parties; field trips as needed; Field Day and other special classroom activities.
HOMEROOM REP. COORDINATOR
Coordinate grade level Back-to-School Parent Coffees and classroom grade parties with Homeroom Reps. May need to secure volunteers for various PTA events.
 
LIBRARY
Assist school librarian with book check-in, check-out, shelving and special projects. Time commitment: 2-4 times per month, shifts in morning and afternoon. Volunteers will be trained.
MCGRUFF HOUSE
Apply through Brinker with the Plano Police Department to provide a “safe haven” for children in the area.
PTA MEMBERSHIP/DIRECTORY
Assist with PTA membership campaign and the production of the school directory. Time commitment: Mostly at the beginning of the school year, can be done at home.
REFLECTIONS
Assist in making students aware of different Reflections entry opportunities. Once entries are made and judged, help in setting up and taking down school displays.
 
 
SCIENCE FAIR
Assist faculty in the setup of Science Fair boards, as well as recruit most of the Science Fair judges.
SHOEBOX SCIENCE
Help check in and restock library of Shoebox Science experiments. These are hands-on experiments that students may check out.
   
SPIRIT WEAR
Assist in the set up and selling of Brinker spirit wear at different school functions.
TEACHER APPRECIATION
Assist in developing plans for Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring. Time commitment: 1-2 meetings and 1-5 days during Teacher Appreciation Week.
TOTALLY LUCIOUS CAKES (TLC)
Sign up to make a staff member a cake for his/her birthday and deliver it to the school the magic day. Recipes and instructions are provided
V.I.P. TUTOR
Assist selected students in improving Math, Reading, and Writing skills. Time commitment: 1-2 times/week for 1/2 - 1 hour.
YEARBOOK
Assist in taking photos at school events, yearbook layout and distribution. Time commitment is heaviest before deadlines in October and February.
Y.O. PACKETS
Collate, staple, and distribute to classrooms the weekly Bear Facts newsletter and school notices that are sent home with students. Time commitment: 1-4 times per month.

YOUTH & SAFETY
Assist PTA Chairperson in helping to educate our children about bike safety, street crossings, etc, as well as help in establishing the McGruff Houses for our neighborhoods.
